Memotone is the alias of the Newport-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer William Yates. Self-taught through a ‘learn-by-playing’ approach, his work explores ambient, jazz, and contemporary classical. Through his ever-evolving sound he's been experimenting with since 2007, he combines piano, clarinet, percussion, and electronics to create a blend of organic textures and leftfield electronic music. Yates is an experienced composer for chamber ensembles, jazz trios and pop bands.
